WINTER SHOW

CLASSES OFFER SCOPE FOR «ALL.

Scope for everyone will be found in the huge list of competitions, all with good prizes, at the Winter Show, to be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. A comprehensive and fully' revised list of classes offers every farmer the opportunity to enter. All the farmers’ special competitions have been retained, the root crops classifications have been made on a system bound to create a wider interest, and the ingenious farmer will find in the three classes of the newly instituted farm utility section the chance to display useful articles made from waste leather, waste metal, or empty tins.

The increase in the prize money in the vegetable section to 7s 6d for first place must result in keener competition, and already this has been evident from the increased number of entries received. The kitchen and small farms scheme garden competitions offer worthwhile special prizes. In the home industries section the scope is unrivalled. There are, in addition to the 110 ordinary classes, special prizes offering for the W.D.F.LT. members, £3 in specials for two fruit cake classes, a 30s rug and a special prize for Kaiapoi competitions, trophies valued at £1 11s 6d for the electric cooking competion, the £1 Is prize for the “Semco” competition, special prizes for the Jaeger competition, and, last, but not least, the courts competition for Women’s Institute and Women’s Division branches. The Arts and Crafts section offer special features this year, providing for classes for painting in oils, water colours, black and white work, and posters and fashion plates. The photography section should attract much interest, particularly the competition for the best infant or toddler, for ‘which Messrs. H. R. White, Ltd., have offered a 10s trophy. School exhibits are reported to be likely to be very interesting, and the Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Club are understood to have received unprecedentedly large entries.

For exhibitors’ convenience exhibits may be left at Anderson’s store, Pio Pio, and Jones’ store, Aria.
