WIRELESS INTERFERENCE
REPLACEMENT OF INSULATORS. DECISION OF POWER BOARD. WORK DONE PROGRESSIVELY. A decision to proceed progressively with the replacement of the strain type insulators on line terminals, found by tests to have been causing wireless interference, was made at the Waitomo Power Board meeting on Monday. The engineer estimated that the total cost of the work would be about £IOO.
The engineer in recommending that this action be taken over a period of two years or so, said that actually a local body could be compelled to remedy wireless interference, but he felt that the Board should undertake this work because the goodwill of radio owners was worth while, and the electricity used in wireless sets accounted for a considerable amount of the Board’s revenue. He said that the work would not, of course, eliminate interference entirely, as only a proportion came from power lines.
When Mr. Brook asked if it was certain that it was the strain insulators at line terminals that were causing the trouble, the engineer said that the Post and Telegraph testers had found results after remedial measures had been carried out in Williams Street very satisfactory With the work being preformed progressively, tests would be made after each section was treated; if these failed to show an improvement, the work would naturally be abandoned. As the engineer’s recommendation was adopted, members expressed the view that the work should be undertaken as expeditiously as possible providing that results were satisfactory.
