Game is reported to be very plentiful in the Central King Country, adjacent to Taumarunui, at the present time, and the birds are in splendid condition. During the week-end Messrs. Les. Cleman and W. Simons, of Morrinsville, and party shot over several properties in the district and had plenty of sport and luck, the total bag comprising 13 pheasants, 11 ducks and 32 quail. Speaking to a Press representative, before leaving for Morrinsville, Mr. Coleman said he was delighted with the shooting and considers that the Central King Country is well stocked with pheasants, the result of liberal liberation by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society. On a recent visit to Taumarunui Mr. Coleman shot what he termed his “biggest bird.” It measured 37 inches from the beak to the tip of the tail and is now being treated by a taxidermist.
