WAIRERE POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wairere Electric Power Board was held in the Board's offices, Pio Pio, yesterday, the chairman, Mr. Boddy, presiding over Messrs. R. W. Moore, C. S. Roberts, G. W. Crocombe, J. Johnstone, D. R. Sage, A. Kinder, the secretary, Mr. Aston, and the engineer, Mr. Green. The secretary reported that debentures covering the raising of the £2OOO balance of the £17,000 No 3 Loan had been signed and returned to the lenders and the typewritten debenture hypothecated at the bank was being cancelled.

A special meeting had been held on the 10th inst. to pass resolutions covering the raising of the £3OOO special loan from the State Advances Corporation. As soon as the debentures have been printed and signed, the money will be made available. Although the £14,000 loan proposal has not been dealt with yet by the Loans Board, advice has been received that the necessary investigations are now completed by the Departments concerned and a promise made to expedite the consideration of the Board's application. A letter was received from the Land Development Office approving of the installation of power in eleven cottages and seven cowsheds in the Ngatamahine Block. The question of the granting of the transfer of four of the Board's consumers to the Waitomo Board's area was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Crocombe. to consider.

It was resolved that the Board support a remit from the Otago Power Board to the Power Boards' Association that in future the secretaries and engineers conferences be held on separate dates, in order that the chairman, secretary and engineer would not be away at the same time.

A complaint was received from the Mokau Dairy Company, Ltd., that great inconvenience was caused to the manager in that no information had been available in the past as to the possible duration of power shutdowns, and owing to shut-downs taking place on holidays considerable expense to the company was involved on account of the stringent regulations covering overtime rates of pay. It was decided to make arrangements to communicate with the company in the event of future shut-downs.

The question of consumers being permitted to use the Board's poles for their own services was brought before the meeting by the engineer, Mr. Green, and after some discussion it was decided that a nominal charge be made for the use of the poles. The secretary \ reported that the Auckland Electric Power Board last month asked for repayment of the £IOOO loan at call advanced to the Board some two years ago. As the power fund account was in credit last month, the time was considered opportune to repay the loan, with interest to date.
