ABOUT YOUR HOME. A slice of potato will clean oil paintings without injury. Dipped in baking soda, it will brighten silver. To remove the marks left by heat ( on a table, pour some lamp-oil on the spot and rub with a soft cloth. Then pour on a little spirits of wine, and polish. The whitish marks will entirely disappear. Bronze should never be washed unless absolutely necessary. Bronze ornaments should be dusted and occasionally the surface gently wiped with a cloth dipped in linseed oil. Afterwards warm, and polish with a chamois leather.
Added to blacklead, vinegar increases the stove polish. It can be used in the bath instead of bathsalts, especially after any strenuous exertion; a cupful in a big bath will remove all stiffness or aching muscles and joints.
Tarnished electroplate may be cleaned with hot water in which there is a litle ammonia and yellow soap. Afterwards use ordinary plate powder, allowing it to dry before polishing. If ferns are not doing well give them a few drops of castor oil at the roots and set their, in a bucket of water all night. Soon you will find they are putting out new shoots. Do not repeat this more than every two or three months.
