AWAKINO NEWS
BASKETBALL OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Awakino Basketball Club was held at Mrs. May's home. The following officers were elected: Chairwoman, Miss N. Bryant; secretary, Miss M. Foley; committee, Mesdames Carrington, Condon and May; delegates, Miss Foley and Mrs. May. A flag 500 evening was held in the Awakino Hall in aid of the Badminton club. The prize winners were Messrs. C. Marshall, Anderson, C. McNiece and Mrs. L. Coleman. The Badminton Club opened its season last week. The Awakino-Mokau Medical Association held its annual general meeting in the Mokau hall. The balance sheet showed a better financial position than for some time. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. A. E. Gilliver; s cretary, Mrs. H. Purcell; committee, Messrs. R. Gibbs, G. Cornfoot, C. J. Randall, M. Farmer, B. Condon, W. B. Martin, Mrs. Farmer and Mrs. E Lewes; auditor, Mr. L. Cameron. It was decided that Mr. W. McKeown be elected the first life member of the association in appreciation of his work and his unfailing interest in the work of the association. Thanks were accorded Gibson's Motors for their great help and Mrs. Wilson, Pio Pio, for her activity for the association as member of the Waikato Hospital Board.
A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president Mr. Murray Pratt. It was decided to accept the Waikato Hospital Board's grant of £IOO towards purchasing a car for the use of the nurse, and activities have been commenced for raising the rest of the money. A grant was made to Miss Sinclair for furnishings for the nurse's cottage.
