The elaborate precautions taken by an aged Chinese to ensure the safety of his money caused amusement to those who witnessed the incident in Mosgiel recently. The old man shuffled into one of the local banks and withdrew a small sum which he asked for in the form of silver coins. Apparently, the saying “safe as a bank” meant nothing to him, for he carefully stowed the money away in a small sugar sack. This operation having been completed, he drew from his belt a large clasp knife and satisfied that he had done all in his power to protect himself, he shouldered his sack and departed to face the perils of Mosgiel's main street.
