MANGAPEHI
MEETING OF SPORTS CLUB. (Own Correspondent). The annual general meeting of the Mangapeehi Athletic Sports Club was held in the local hall on Tuesday, 2nd February. The attendance was not all that could be desired on such an occasion, but all those present formed quite a strong committee and decided to carry on with the good work. A very satisfactory balance sheet was read and adopted. Mr. H. F. Hayes was re-elected Patron, Mr. H. J. Farrell President, Mr P. C Jones Secretary, and G. Grant Assistant Secretary. Where possible, most of last year's officials were also re-elected to office.
Mr. Farrow moved that a vote of thanks and congratulation be passed to the outgoing committee for the splendid and efficient way last year's sports meeting was conducted. The 13th March is the date fixed for this year's sports meeting, which is a week or so earlier than usual owing to Easter being in March. The usual attractive programme was then drawn up and in some instances prize money was made considerably higher in the hope of attracting some first-class athletes and axemen. For the first time in Mangapeehi Ralph Dixon's public address system will be in operation on the ground, and should prove an attraction which will no doubt be greatly appreciated by the public. Should the «Club be again favoured with nice weather, a good day's sport is assured. Cricket. On February 7th a cricket match — Mangapeehi versus The Bush —took place on the local sports grounds. The Bush were the challengers but the home team was too good, and won by an innings and several runs. The Bush of course had had no practice previous to this match, but they now have bats, and when the return match is played they expect to make things much warmer for the home team.
