CATHCART JONES
AUSTRALIA-ENGLAND RECORDMAKER. ABSENT FROM CREDITORS' MEETING. (By Air Mail.) (From a Special Correspondent.) London, January 29. Where is Owen Cathcart Jones, who made flying history in 1934, when he and Ken Waller fle\v from England to Australia and back in 13 £ days, after having gained fourth place in the big air race to Melbourne? The famous airman failed to appear at his first meeting of creditors at London Bankruptcy Court this week. Mr. C. T. Newman, Assistant Official Receiver, said that Cathcart Jones had failed to surrender under the proceedings. A distress was levied at his flat last December and goods were sold in January. A representative of the petitioning creditor said that Cathcart Jones took a 'plane to South America for demonstration purposes. It was alleged that he sold the machine and failed to account for the proceeds and a judgment for £660 had been obtained against him. Mr. Newman said that last August Cathcart Jones was alleged to have landed in Czechoslovakia with two Spanish nationals and to have subsequently disappeared. "Whether he is in Spain or not, I don't know,'' said Mr. Newman, "but I believe that he was in this country on December 22."
