COUNTY AMALGAMATION
INFORMAL DISCUSSION. DEFERRED INDEFINITELY. An informal discussion on. amalgamation took place at the Waitomo County Council meeting yesterday, when the Local Body Amalgamation Schemes Bill was considered. It was stated there was one portion of the Ohura County near the Aria riding, and one portion of the Clifton County near the Awakino riding which could probably be more advantageously administered from Waitomo, while there was also the possibility of taking in a portion of the Kawhia County. The community of interest of these localities was with the railway in and about Te Kuiti, and the Waitomo County Council were finding' the facilities for their people to travel to the rail. The Waitomo County was one of the largest in New Zealand, said the chairman, Mr. W. A. Lee. It was quite sufficiently large for adminis l trative purposes, and he could see no benefits from a larger amalgamation scheme. The question was further discussed by the Council, but was deferred indefinitely on the suggestion of the chairman.
