Mr. J. H. Penniket is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H, Mason, of Oparure.

Miss Ivy Graham will resume classes at the studio, Tawa Street, on Monday next, February Bth.

Miss Joyce Tollerton, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. J. Hobson, of Pio Pio.

Mr. J. B. Davis, postmaster at Pio Pio, has besn promoted to a similar position at Featherston.

Mr. Morpeth, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, is on annual leave, being at present in Wanganui. Mr. R. S. T. Archer is acting manager during Mr. Morpeth’s absence.

Mrs. Looney, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. A. D. McLennan, has returned to New Plymouth.

Mr. and Mrs. Phil Swift are now living in Taumarunui where Mr. Swift has set up in business.

The Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, arrived at Hamilton from Auckland on Thursday evening. He returned yesterday morning to Auckland where he later attended a meeting of the Anglican Pensions Board.

The engagement is announced of Verdun Eleanor, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Bear, of Tirau, to George Richard, elder son of Mrs. K. Mclntosh, and the late Mr. R. J. Cotter, of Te Kuiti.

A farewell to Mr. and Mrs. G. W* A. Clarke was held recently at Waitanguru. During the evening Ganger Mitchell, of the Public Works Department, presented Mr. Clarke with a fountain pen, and Mrs. Clarke with an electric iron. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke are now living in the Otorohanga district.

Mr. R. H. Quilliam, who appeared for the Crown in the shooting case at Whangamomona, paid a tribute to the bravery and tact of the police officers and of Mr. Waters, also one of the stock buyers, Mr. Rod Mcßae. The last-named is fairly well known in this district, and has in past years judged the national dancing at the Pio Pio sports. This year he will be the judge of the dancing at the Te Kuiti Sports Club’s meeting as well.
