CHARGE OF ASSAULT

ELDERLY MAN BEFORE COURT. Charged with a technical assault of young girls on the Te Kuiti railway station platform, a worker, aged 63, from Owen’s Block, Aria, appeared before Messrs. R. B. Cole and F. W. Fraser in the Justices’ Court yesterday, and was remanded to Auckland for observation.

Sergeant Sparks said that the defendant on several occasions had come up to young girls on the station platform, and though he was a perfect stranger, had caught them and kissed them. As a result a complaint had been made. The police had seen him attempt to kiss another young girl, and had arrested him on the charge of assault, though it had been only a technical one.
