Six firemen, including the deputychief officer, W. Beare, were trapped in flames on the top floor of a fivestoreyed building at Surrey Hills occupied by the Commonwealth Drug Company. The firemen had to fight for their lives against the flames and deady carbon monoxide fumes _ until their comrades came to their aid. Five members of the brigade were severely burned when two drums of oil exploded and sprayed them. The damage to the building and stock amounts to thousands of pounds.
