MANGAPEHI

(Own Correspondent). A football match, United versus Pio Pio Juniors, took place on the home ground on Saturday last. This match should have been played at Pio Pio as that team had already visited Mangapehi in the first round, but unfortunately for the Juniors Pio Pio was unable to contend with three home matches on the one day and arrangements were made for the match to be played at Mangapehi. Once more it was an ideal day for football and the ground was in perfect order. This was a good game to watch, being fast, open and exciting to the last minute, there being little or nothing between the teams. United won, the final score being: United 10, Pio Pio 5.

Pio Pio gained the ball in the majority of the scrums and their backs showed up brilliantly with fine passing rushes and on several occasions seemed certain of scoring, but strong defence and sure tackling by the Greens saved the day. However, both teams gave a fine display of good clean football. A nice try neatly converted was scored by Pio Pio, while for Mangapehi, B. Farrell and B. Croun each scored a try, both being unconverted, and D. McNeil potted a beautiful field goal. Mr. H. Hall was the referee.

The United third grade team travelled to Te Kuiti where they met Waitete. This game ended in a draw—--3 all.
