THE BRETHREN

GOOD WISHES FOR YOUNG COUPLE. Prior to the usual Gospel meeting in the Municipal Hall on Sunday night, opportunity was taken by the local Brethren Assembly to bid farewell to Bro. J. McKean and Sister Mercer, who were married on Monday. The event took the form of a fellowship tea and the tables were beautifully decorated with flowers and coloured streamers. After justice had been done to the good things provided, Bro. Bowick in a brief speech spoke of the sterling qualities of their brother and sister and the valuable help and service that had been rendered by them in the local assembly. In asking them to accept a beautiful beaten brass jardinier on behalf of the assembly, he expressed the desire that God's richest blessingmay be their portion and all the happiness that alone is found in a union "in Christ." Bro. Coventry was then called upon to present to Sister Mercer a small gift on behalf of the Sunday School of which she had been a teacher for a number of years past. Bro. Moorhead (Te Kawa), Bro. Barton (Wanganui), and local brethren also spoke in similar strains. The singing of "How Good is the God We Adore," after which Bro. Barton was called upon to close with a word of prayer, brought the function to a fittingclose. Sister Mercer was also given a pantry evening at her parents' home in Ward Street last Thursday evening by the young people of the assembly.
