QUESTION OF SOVEREIGNTY. QUESTIONS IN THE COMMONS. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12 Noon.) London, May 13. In the House of Commons, replying to Messrs. .Donner's, Emmott's and Sandys' questions, Mr. J. H. Thomas said he was not in a position to make a statement on the subject of the Jarvis, Baker, and Howland Islands question, but air service to them was of paramount importance. Mr. Thomas said he was investigating the position, also the question of sovereignty. Mr. Sandys: If there is any question of British sovereignty being doubted, Mr. Thomas should say so. The three islands mentioned are in the Pacific. The United States proposed to annex them to serve as landing stations for a Pacific air service, but they are claimed to be British territory.
