"JOHN BULL'S" CRITICISM.

(To the Editor). Sir,—"John Bull" in his letter attacking the young supporters of Mr. Penniket, certainly reminds us that our forebears have built up the greatest Empire the world has. even seen. But has it occurred to "John Bull" that if the present economic system is not reformed we are in danger of losing that Empire? The present poverty and distress which is quite unnecessary in this age, provides a good nursery bed for Bolshevism and anti-social doctrines. It is, I admit, a painful process for many old people to grasp a new idea or to realise the tremendous change which it taking place in world conditions, but all honour to the younger generation for their attempts to arouse them to a sense of their responsibilities, and I think it ill behoves us to deride their genuine efforts to extricate themselves from a hopeless economic position and, the legacy of debt and distress we have left them.—l am, etc., "PRE-WAR."
