PROTECTION OF REGULAR SHOPS. NEW WELLINGTON BY-LAW. For the future persons desirous of setting up in business for the sale of goods direct to the public for a period under three months can only do so under license from the Wellington City Council, according to Amending By-law No. 82 approved by the council the other evening. The new by-law provides that no itinerant trader shall sell or offer or expose for sale any goods, wares, or merchandise whatsoever in any part of the city until he shall be the holder of a license authorising him so to do; that every such license shall be issued under the hand of the town clerk; that every such license shall remain in force for a term of one year from the date of issue thereof and no longer, and that for every such license there shall be paid to the council before the issue of such license the sum of £5.
