WILLOWS IN MOKAU
CAMPS TO BE ESTABLISHED. FOR CLEARING THE STREAM. In connection with the establishment of an unemployed camp on the Mokau River for the elimination of willows, Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., has been advised by the Public Works engineer that it is proposed to establish camps of eight and ten men right away to test out the haulmo* gear on the willows to ascertain whether they can be handled while green. Once the camps have been started the desired information will be obtained very quickly so that the work can be proceeded with on the basis arranged. It is proposed to clear the Mokau between the 8-mile peg on the main road and Wairere on the Aria road. When the work is completed it will prevent large areas of land on this section of the stream from flooding, while it will also keep the road open at the 8-mile, and the" road to Aria near Wairere during the heavy rains of the winter.
