HINDENBURG FOR SECOND BALLOT. HITLER'S APPEAL TO FOLLOWERS. (Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 10.15 a.m.) Berlin, March 14. Marshal Hindenburg has formally agreed to stand at the second 'ballot. Speaking at Munich, Herr Hitler said there would be no half measures. Hitler said: "Now the first battle is over I summon you to intensify the attack on the Catholic and Communist fronts, and I am resuming the fight herewith.
HINDENBURG LEADING. SECOND BALLOT NECESSARY. The latest returns give the positions of the candidates as follows: Hindenburg . . . . 18,418,983 Hitler 7 11,144,541 Thaelmann 4,924,956 Duesterberg . . . . 2,497,860 Winter 109,292 The returns from Macklenburg have still to come, but they cannot affect the result. A second ballot will be necessary, as Marshal von Hindenburg failed to secure an absolute majority by 128,833 votes. However, his success in the second ballot, which will be held on April 10, is regarded as certain. The Rhineland, which is predominantly Roman Catholic, gave Marshal von Hindenburg a large majority. Also he gained an absolute majority in Berlin, where Herr Hitler was a bad third to Herr Thaelmann.
