A FEW HINTS.
A raw fruit stain on a linen tablecloth should be washed with warm water while it is still in a moist state. The final streaks can then be removed by applying a little peroxide of hydrogen. A coffee stain will yield to treatment of hot water and soda.
If grease is spilled on the kitchen table, cover it at once with coarse salt. This prevents the grease sinking into the wood.
When baking, sprinkle salt in the oven underneath the baking-tins to keep the cakes or pies from burning.
To prevent custard from becoming watery, place a small piece of bread on top of it before putting it into the oven.
Before you start filling your trunk make sure you have plenty of newspaper for wrapping your shoes in, and plenty of tissue paper for the frocks.
To allay the irritation when any foreign matter alights in the eye, apply one or two drops of castor oil at once.
If you want to stiffen lace, never use starch. Clear rice water or sugarwater are far more effective.
