THE DOOR PLATE. There was an old doctor in Merionethshire whose age was unknown to his most intimate friends. However, when he died, they felt confident that at last the mystery would be solved, for his age would surely be set out on the coffin-plate. But great was their astonishment on the day of the funeral when they found that, in accordance with the instructions of the old doctor, his brass plate had been removed from his front door, and affixed to the coffin, and so it read: “Thomas Lewis—Hours 9 to 12.”
SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. First Cannibal: The chief has hay fever. Second Cannibal: Serves him right. We warned him not to eat that grass widow.
