In the tennis match for the Bridge Cup held recently on the Otamati court, Mangaokewa Club were successful in winning the trophy by a good margin of 15 games. The cup is a challenge one, originally donated for the purpose of fostering match play between the local tennis clubs, and consequently a means of improving the standard of tennis. Otamati has held the cup since last season, but has been unfortunate in losing several good players, which has resulted in their team being weakened. Following are the detailed results of the sets, Mangaokewa names mentioned first: —Powdrill beat Farrer 9 2; Waghorn beat Williams 9—2; Barlow lost to Hill 2—9; Taylor beat Jones 9—6; Mrs. Barlow beat Mrs. Farrer 6—4; Mrs McKean lost to Miss Brooke 2—6; Powdrill and Waghorn beat Farrer and Hill 9—5; Barlow and Taylor beat Williams and Jones 9—6; Waghorn and Mrs. Barlow beat Farrer and Miss Brooke, 6 5; Powdrill and Mrs McKean beat Williams and Mrs. Farrer 6—5; Mrs. Barlow and Mrs. McKean lost to Miss Brooke-and Mrs. Farrer, 4—6. The recent good downpour of rain came just in time to save the situation for the turnip crops, and has consequently improved the milk* yield; the dry spell was the longest experienced for some years in this locality, and played havoc with gardens and pastures. The usual arrival of blackberry pickers at this time of the year is indicative of the preserving pan being brought into use to augment the larder supply. The berries hereabouts are of a particularly t large variety and grow in profusion, so that jam makers find no difficulty in fulfilling their requirements of this popular fruit. Personal. Mr. Stock, of Christchurch, was a week-end visitor at Mr. and Mrs. E; O. Williams, "Paparata." Mr. Bob McNarey has returned I from a short visit to Otahuhu, where

he has been learning some of the finer points of broadsiding. Miss J. Pittams is spending a vacation at St. Helier's.

Mrs. Scott is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Dando, at Turua. Mr. and Mrs. Savage are now occupying the boarding-house which has been empty for some months..
