(Own Correspondent.) The Maniapoto District Silver Band visited Pio Pio on Sunday evening last and gave a delightful concert. The large audience in the Town Hall much enjoyed the musical treat. The Band, which was conducted by Mr. Timbers, contributed five items. The opening march was much appreciated. "When Your Hair has Turned to Silver," and "Little Sweetheart of the Prairies" also came in for much applause. Master Lee played a cornet solo, accompanied by Mr. Phil Swift (piano), and received a great ovation; an encore was asked for but as he was playing later the audience had to be satisfied. Later Mr. Lee and his son gave a cornet duet, and he played again with his younger brother. Mr. Phil Swift accompanied them each time on the piano. All items were received with great enthusiasm. Others who contributed to the evening's enjoyment were, Mrs. Snow, who sang "Two Eyes of Grey," accompanied by Mr. Phil Swift; Mrs. Lever, "Fairy Song," accompanied by Miss Roie Hogan; Miss Rosina Buckman, "Mountain Lover," accompanied by Mrs. Dinnison; Mr. Robbins, "I'll Sing Thee Songs of Araby," encore "0 Sole Mio" and "Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes," accompanied by Mr. Phil Swift. Mr. Richardson sang "When You Come Home," accompanied by Mrs. Dinnison. Mr. Whitten, who played his qwn accompaniments, sang "Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep," encore "Sing Me to Sleep," also a novelty item was given by him.- Mr. Dinnison, who announced the various items on the programme, thanked all for their attendance and said the proceeds were quite satisfactory. Mrs. Petersen was also thanked for lending chairs for the stage. The National Anthem was sung at the conclusion of the concert. The members of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild had a busy day on Thursday last when they sold the fruit and vegetables given for the Harvest Thanksgiving which was held on Sunday, February 21st. The produce stall was in charge of Mrs. Woods; sweet stall, Mrs. Cullen; drapery, Mesdames Besant, Smith and Neeley; bran tub, Mrs. Coyle; competitions, Mrs. Coates and Rev. Mr. Smith. The competitions were won by Mrs. Cullen for nail driving and Mrs. Coates for sawing wood. Mr. Sam Leitch won the cake, the weight being 81bs llioz, and the Rev. Mr. Smith the ducks. The resbyterian Sunday School picnic was held at Cabbage Tree Flat on Saturday, 27th February, in beautiful weather. A lorry conveyed the children to the picnic ground, about thirty-four being present besides visitors from Mangaotaki. The children spent most of the day swimming, the tiny tots from six years and under were given a bag of sweets, and the usual "lolly scramble" delighted the older ones. The usual exchange stall was held on sale day, 25th February. Those in charge were Mesdames C. Jackson and Cayley-Alexander. . Nine members of the Pio Pio branch of the W.D.F.U. visited Kaeaea on Saturday, 27th, and spent a most enjoyable day with members of the division there. Competitions, play reading, musical items, recitatons, songs and a demonstration of how to make pretty and useful articles at little cost was shown by a lady from Christchurch visiting the Kaeaea district. The members of the Anglican Ladies' Guild organised an. afternoon in the Rest Room on Tuesday, February 23rd, to enable parishioners to welcome the Rev. Mr Mears to the district and to say farewell to Rev. Mr. Fussell, who left next day for Waitara. The room was comfortably full. Mrs. N. Mcßae spoke a few words of welcome to Mr. Mears, and hoped his stay in the district would be a happy one. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Mcßae and Terry. Apologies were sent from several members who were unable to attend. The Play-reading Club which proved such a success last year has again sprung into life.
