GOLF NOTES

TE KUITI CLUB. There will be no draw for either ladies or men on Saturday, players choosing their own partners and making their own arrangements re afternoon tea. It is proposed to close the season on Saturday, October 10th, when trophies won during the season will be presented. Further intimation re closing will be published later. BURNSIDE CLUB. In the finals of the men's championship played over 27 holes, Stranger beat Martin by 4 and 3, and so again holds the Rothery Cup which he also held the year before last. The conditions applying to this cup provide that it may be won outright by being held three years at intervals or two years in succession, and so far Stranger is the only member to hold the cup more than once. The play in the finals was well up to championship standard, though the first round showed the competitors playing ruggedly. However, they both settled down to some good golf and the 15th, 16th and 17th were squared in fours, Stranger doing another four at the 18th to put himself 3 up at 19th tee. Martin thereafter failed to reduce his opponent's lead, and another four at the 24th gave Stranger the match by 4 and 3. On Saturday the fourth round of the eclectic will be layed in conjunction with a bogey competition for the president's trophy.
