THE WINTER SHOW

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the King Counti*y and District Winter Show Association was held on Tuesday evening, the president, Mr. S. Craig, being in the chair.

The balance-sheet showed that the Show held in July last realised a profit of £9 2s 7d, while the Auckland exhibit rendered a profit of £6 15s sd. The assets of the Association now amounted to £92 19s sd, including stands and timber, which were valued at £ls.

In submitting the annual report the president stated that taking everything into consideration the year’s operations have been fairly satisfactory. While the profit was a small one it must be borne in mind that this year no appeal was made to the business people, and the Association is now . self-supporting. Had it been working under the same conditions as in 1929 the profit would have been another £IOO. The fourday show was well patronised, and the gate receipts showed an increase of £25 as compared with the previous year. The thanks of the Association are due to Mrs. A. B. Jordan and her band of lady workers, who so capably organised the tea-rooms. Although unsuccessful in obtaining first award for the district court at Auckland, the effort was a splendid one so far as advertising the King Country was concerned. The Association is under a deep debt of gratitude to Messrs. A. Robson and L. Sparks, who built and decorated the district court, which from an artistic point of view was equal to anything seen at the Auckland Winter Exhibition; also to Messrs. Douglas, Harrison and Holah for their work in laying out the court. As on former occasions, the district won all the competitions in the root classes, and the many successes in the competition will be a fine advertisement for the King Country. In conclusion, the speaker said it would be a matter of consideration for the incoming committee as to whether* it w'ould be advisable to hold the fixtui*e this yeai*. The Dominion was passing thx’ough a strenuous time, and many changes would take place within the next twelve months. The chairman concluded his remai’ks by expressing appreciation of the splendid work of those who worked so hard to make the show a success, also to the exhibitors who so enthusiastically supported the function.

The balance-sheet and i*eport was adopted as read. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P.; president, Mr. S. Craig; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Douglas, A. Sutherland, S. A. Holah, W. Stringer, R. Boddy, M. C.
