ELABORATE EXPEDITION
TO TOUR COUNTRIES OF ASIA. CATERPILLARS AND MOTORCARS. (Press Association.—-Copyright.) (Received 10.25 a.m.) London, February 2. The Times Paris correspondent states that a gigantic expedition equipped with seven heavy caterpillai motor lorries and six lighter cars, starts on a two years' journey across Asia on March 15 from Beirut. The expedition, which was organised by Andre Citroen, includes a number of scientists, a geologist, an archaeologist, a painter, a naturalist and wireless and cinema staffs.
The itinerary will be Iraq, Persia, Turkistan, the Gobi Desert and Pekin, where it is hoped to arrive in September, thence to Saigon, after which the expedition will visit Siam, Burma, India, Persia and Arabia. The party will probably begin the second half of the journey in 1933. One heavy car carries the staff and the others the surveying and scientific instruments and another a wireless station with a range of 12,500 miles, and will be constantly in touch with Europe, Asia and America. The smaller cars include an electric kitchen and an ambulance.
