LITTLE RUSSIA

Some 200,000 Russian exiles living in the environs of Paris have built up a little make-believe State of their own for the preservation of Soviet culture and ideals and education of their children.

Schools, churches, military societies, and social"welfare groups have been organised. Russia in Paris is a little crosssection of Tsarist Russian population, including aristocrats, tradesmen, soldiers, and workers displaced by the political upheaval. There are kindergartens, primary schools, high schools, and craft schools, where exiled Russian children of all classes may learn their native language and culture. Although he has no official status,

the former ambassador continues to act as legal adviser to the Russian colony, with offices where the embassy archives prior to 1916 are kept.

The Russians in Paris have three churches and a cathedral, besides a theological school, something not to be found within Russia itself (says the Paris correspondent of the Christian Science Monitor). Most influential of all the colony’s institutions, perhaps, is the Gallipoli Union, formed of veterans of the Wrangel army, the last White Russian army unit. General Koutiepoff, the military leader who mysteriously disappeared several months ago, was the acknowledged leader of the antiCommunist military organisation in Paris.

NUTRITIOUS WHOLEMEAL LOAF. (Makes two loaves.) Four cups Bisley’s Wholemeal, 1 cup white flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, a little salt, 1 cup raisins, 1 cup chopped walnuts, mix all together.
