COUNTRY STOREKEEPERS OF N.S.W.
IN A SERIOUS POSITION. (Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 10.35 a.m.) Sydney, this day. “Strained to the utmost limit of their resources, the storekeepers are carrying the whole deadweight of the present system of distribution on their shoulders, and have in desperation fixed the 31st November, 1931, as the date beyond which they will find it impossible to carry on.” The foregoing sentence was contained in an appeal to the Premier from the Country Traders’ Association of New South Wales, comprising 1200 country storekeepers. They urge the Government to approach the Loan Council for necessary authority to float a rural emergency loan of £2,000,000. This is considered the only practical means of meeting the present situation.
