BANNED ITALIANS

SOME FOR NEW ZEALAND. MAY NOT BE ALLOWED TO LAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wellington, this day. In connection with the Italians who are leaving Sydney for New Zealand the position in regard to their admission to this country was officially explained to a Post representative. It was stated that the Italians referred to in the cable would not be allowed to land in New Zealand, either for permanent or temporary residence, unless they were in possession of permits to do so, and it is impossible, in the absence of their names, to say whether permits have been issued by the Customs Department for their admission.

A message from Sydney yesterday stated that six of the Italians who were not allowed to land from the liner Orford have escaped from the ship. A close guard is being kept over the others. Three of the original complement have been allowed to leave for New Zealand, but the remainder are to be sent back to Italy by the Orama, now in port.
