ZINC FACTORY FUMES
CAUSE DEATH OF ASTHMA PATIENTS.
(Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 10.45 a.m.) Brussels, December 5. Asthma sufferers living near a zinc factory at Liege were asphyxiated last night. It is believed that a fog interfered with the working of the volatilizer, causing the fumes to spread over the district.
MORE DEATHS REPORTED
IN OTHER DISTRICTS. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 11.45 p.m.) Antwerp, December 5. The mysterious deaths occurring in a dense fog which enwrapped the Meuse Valley, are attributed to asphyxiation from the fog. Fourteen deaths occurred at Engis in the past twenty-four hours following a three-days fog. The Health Committee has been sent to investigate. Thirty-four' deaths, apparently from the same cause, are reported in the Liege district. Many were taken to hospital. A number of cattle died while farmers were driving the animals to their kitchens to escape the fog.
