Miss A. Hulme has been appointed assistant mistress at the Kawhia school.

Mr F. Wilding, accountant, of Auckland, is at present in Te Kuiti.

Dr. Henderson, Education Department’s health officer, also Sister Cherry, are at present visiting the local school.

Mr anfl Mrs F. W. Sutton and two sons, of Hawera, who arrived in Auckland b)y the AorangU after a world’s tour, spent last night at Kelvin Hotel. They were on their way home.

Mr J. D. Vernon was elected an honorary solicitor to the Sooiety at the third annual meeting of the Auckland Society for the Prevention o( Cruelty to Animals, held last evening.

Mr John Garrick Robertson, son of Sir Carrick Robertson, of Auckland, was admitted to the Te Kuiti Public Hospital with an injury to bis left log, and was operated on last evening. His condition is satisfactory. His mother, Lady Robertson, is at present staying in Te Kuiti.

Commissioner John Cunningham, with Mrs Cunningham and their family, arrived at Sydney by the Balranald. They will sail to-morrow for New Zealand,, where Mr Cunningham is to succeed Commissioner James Hay as leader of the Salvation Army.

The death has occurred at Rotorua of Mr F. O. Allen, a prominent figure in the North Island timber industry. Mr Allen was well known in the King Country, where he worked for 20 years. He then -went- to Olialiune and later to Rotorua. He was a keen bowler, and while at Ohakune he constructed his own green. In addition, he was one of the founders of the Ohakune Bowling Club. For many years he was prominent in Masonic circles, being a past master of Lodge Ruapehu. He was a member, and at one time president, of the Waimarino Caledonian Society. He is survived by his wife and three married daughters.
