FLUTTER IN LONDON SOCIETY.
ACTION OF NEW ZEALAND BRIDE MARRIES THE OTHER MAN. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 11.45 a.m.) London, December 19. There was a flutter in society circles at the Savoy Church when the fact became known that a New Zealand bride, Miss Huia Sargood, instead of marrying her announced fiancee, Captain Valle Pope, of the Royal Artillery, who took out a license a fortnight ago, had married to-day a New Zealander, Lieutenant lan Lawrence Mackillop, of the Royal Engineers. When interviewed the bride said "The other one is off. I am marrying Mackillop," who interposed with: "The other announcement was incorrect." It is understood that Pope told the church authorities as late as Saturday that everything was in order, but on Monday Miss Sargood told them she was marrying Mackillop. She was informed that under the circumstances the old license was invalid, so she paid 54s for a shortnotice special license. She is the grand-daughter of the late Sir Fredericks-Good.
