THE NEW PRAYER BOOK.
STRONG COMMENT BY MINISTER. CHURCH OF ENGLAND MENACED (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received Noon.) London, December 19. “I consider the time has come for a definite split between the AngloCatholics and the Evangelicals,” says Sir Joynson Hicks, secretary for Affairs, in a statement to the Pily News. “Both views cannot exist the same Church. They want a reunion with'Rome, and we want a reunion with ncn-Comfcrmists. The Anglo-Catholics yearly lean nearer to Rome, and indulge in more and more illegal practices. Parliament has nowsaid they have gone far enough. The Evangelicals have been making room for the Anglo-Catholics by quitting their churches, and the, New Prayer Book has made England wake up. If the disloyal clergy adopt illegal practices and teach illegal doctrines, they cannot honestly. take stipends from the Church they are defying. They must decide for or against Rome. If the former, they must leave the Established Church. A compromise regarding the communion service is inconceivable. The Anglo-Catholics want a disestablishment in order to have a free hand to corrupt church doctrine, but they can get an easier and quicker freedom by choosing another Church. Meanwhile, they must be required to abideriiy their ordination vows.”
