AMATEUR WRESTLING.
TONNER WINS LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Te Awamutu, this day. The wrestling lightweight championship of the Dominion was. decided last night at the tournament conducted by the Young Men’s Institute. There were ten competitors, including C. E. McDonald (Raetihi), the present champion, but the latter was defeated in the first round by Tim Wenham (Te Awamutu). The finalists were T. Wenham and T. Tenner, of Turakina. Each registered a fall, but Tonner secured the championship on points, with a well earned victory. The decision of the referee, Mr. Tenant College, was well received. A special bout between W. Bayne (Te Awamutu), the present lightheavyweight champion, and W. Wills (Auckland) was fast and exciting, but Bayne secured two clean falls in four minutes.
