OPENING OF NEW SCHOOL.

AT TIROA.

Saturday, 16th Alay, was a red letter day for the parents and children of Tiroa school district, when a representative gathering of Europeans and Natives attended the ceremony of the new school. Luncheon was provided fer all-comers at the school, after whibh Air J. Galbraith, J.P., in a few well-chosen words,, introduced the member for Waitomo, Air J. C. Rolleston, who was accompanied by Mrs Bolleston. In a brief speech Mr Bolleston spoke of the value of education and properly equipped schools, also the great necessity for the regular attendance of the children. The new building, he said, was one of the latest designs of an up-to-date country school. After alluding feelingly to the death of the Prime Alinister, Hon. W. F. Alassev, lie declared the building officially opened. Following this a typical little address was given by Mr H. Davey, a well-known local native, in which the goodwill and thanks of the natives were expressed towards the Government for the building and equipment of an up-to-date structure in place of the old one which for some 25 years had done good service to the district. Touching upon the death of Air AY. F. Alassey, sincere regret and deepest sympathy were felt by the local natives, and finished up by saying: “Gone but not forgotten by his faithful Alaori friends.” Sports were subsequently held and all the /children of the district were presented with toys and prizes to 90mmemorate the occasion.
