OBITUARY
MRS ALICE BISHOP. The death occurred on Monday of Mrs Alice Maud Bishop. The deceased lady was born in Bristol, England, and was the third daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Ludwell, late of Rock House, Hambrook, Bristol. She was married to Mr George Bishop 47 years ago and in 1909 came to New Zealand with her husband and two sons and one daughter and settled in Te Awamutu district. Whilst living at Kihikihi she interested herself and did good work for the 'English Church when her' husband was Church Warden and organist. Later she spent more than 20 years at Tiroa where she was engaged with her husband in charge of the public school. During her sojourn in the great bush district of Tiroa, Mangapeehi, she endeared herself by her kindly actions particularly to the Native race as well as to the Europeans; indeed, the Maoris looked upon her as a mother and when she left Tiroa to retire at Hambrook Farm, Te Awamutu, she was presented with tokens of love and respect from the Maoris. Mrs Bishop’s one surviving sister is Mrs T. H. J. Underdown, Lady Mayoress of Bristol, England, her husband, Mr Underdown, being the present Lord Mayor of Bristol. She is survived by her husband and two sons (Mr Gerald Bishop, of Raglan, and Mr G. H. Bishop), and Mrs K. L. A. Rennie, of Hambrook Farm, Te Awamutu, and three grandchildren, Tiroa, Douglas and Molly.
