IMPORTATION OF BORER.
TO AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wellington, this day. Mr Ellis, Director of New Zealand Forestry, has just returned from Australia, where he visited Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. In the course of an interview, he said that they are much concerned in Australia about the inroads of the borer in the white pine imported from New Zealand, and consideration was now being given to the best means of checking importation. “It is the first time I have known that New Zealand borer has been introduced into Australia,” said Mr Ellis, “and we cannot conceive how it could go there, as the timber is sawn, seasoned, and well stacked before shipment. In order to make doubly sure we are having a special investigation made.
