AMUSEMENTS.

EMPRESS THEATRE. AN EDUCATIONAL TREAT. Maurice Tourneur’s latest . achievement for First Divisional Pictures, adapted from R. D. Blackmore’s famous story, “Lorna Doone,” commences a two-nights’ season at the Empress Theatre to-night. Staged with the la.vishness of a master hand that knows every angle of the business, and costly to a degree, this is a picture which offers a rare treat to all lovers of a good, clean, wholesome story. You will enjoy this excellent photoplay, and afterwards laud it as one of the most refreshing and educational treats ever given on the screen. A little deft touch of artistry is also added to the entertainment by the inclusion of another of Larry Semon’s screaming absurdities, entitled “Number, Please!” The topical item is also another subject worthy of special mention, for it presents all the latest news gleaned from every quarter of the globe.

MARY CARR IN “SILVER WINGS.”

On Thursday and Friday evening, together with a special matinee on Friday afternoon at 3.15 p.m. for the children, the management of the Empress Theatre takes extreme pleasure in presenting what is acclaimed as the greatest picture of the year in William Fox’s photoplay of Mother Love, in “Silver Wings.” Maty Carr, the famous player of “Over the Hill,” again essays the role of the little mother. In its intense and vital meaning, it is as profound as Hamlet, and in its visible manifestations it is too far above the vast majority of motion pictures. Only once in a decade does the master hand of an author create a masterpiece that lives in the minds of all who witness it. Translated into terms of real life, “Silver Wings” is a story that is an epochal revelation and a sermon of human possibilities of the home and mother love. We want every man, woman and child to see this great picture on Thursday or Friday evening.
