TANGITU NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) The past weather has been very unfavourable for shearing, those who started having to stop on account of the broken weather. With a continuance of the present conditions, however, the prospects are much brighter. The Tangitu Hall Committee held a dance in the hall last week which was well attended, considering the unfavourable weather. We have had,, a visit from the county engineer, Mr Fennell, who was in our riding in connection with the quarrying of the rock for the roading contract, and also the inspection of the road in connection with Messrs Pulman Ltd.’s agreement. The bad weather we have been having lately has made our roads very wet and muddy for this time of the year, and it is to be hoped that fine weather will soon prevail and give us the idea that summer has come to stay. I understand our present postmaster is resigning, and the settlers are holding a meeting to consider what can be done in the way of keeping the office open. There is a large amount of business done through the local office, and it is a great convenience to our district. The cream carters are still carting full loads of cream, both to Aria and Waimiha, which speaks well for the dairying industry. The feed is in "abundance everywhere on account of the favourable season for growth. Residents were pleased to see the new county ranger round the riding lately, and hope he will not forget that Tangitu Riding is a large one, and his presence here clears the air—or at least the roads.

Ragwort and blackberry are growing strong again this season, and the weeds inspector is badly needed with his book of blue forms if we are to keep our district clear of these dreaded noxious weeds.
