Told that a boy had fallen into the canal at Sale. Cheshire, a Girl Guide, Christina Jane Guntrip, 17, went to the spot and asked a man standing near if he was not going into the water. He said he intended to do so and had sent a. boy for his bathing suit and was waiting for it. The girl immediately jumped into the water, fully clothed, and after diving several times brought the body of the boy—Robert Gunn, 9, of Wolsley Road, Sale—to the surface. Artificial respiration was tried for a long time but. without avail.
