WOOL SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, have received the following cablegram from their London house in connection with wool sales, which opened on 7th inst: The sales opened with a full attendance of buyers, and competition was fairly keen. Prices compared with preceding series ruled in buyers’ favour, for merino and fine crossbreds by 5 per cent to 10 per cent, and medium and coarse crossbred 5 per cent to 7to per cent.

HAMILTON. The Farmers Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: At Hamilton on Tuesday, March 7, we had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle, with another large yarding of pigs. Sheep improved slightly, while beef was on a par with last week and improved values, at which figure there was a ready sale. Lightweight baconers and porkers advanced on last week, heavy baconers being much the same, and Auckland buyers operating freely, the demand being fully equal to the supply. Quotations: — Sheep: Light wethers (no prime wethers yarded) 15s fid; fat ewes 12s fid to 13s; forward lambs to 13s lOd, others 7s 4d to 9s 9d; 2-tooth ewes 14s, f.m. ewes 10s to 11s, aged and poor ewes 4s to 8s 6d. Cattle: Fat steers £5 10s to £6 (no heavy weights); cows, best £4 8s to £6 5s for a quality pen ofHerefords; lighter fat cows £2 14s to £3 10s; store cows 19s to 345. The advertised line of bullocks failed to reach the reserve. 2% to 3-year steers £2 15s to £3 13s. No young cattle yarded.

Pigs: Weaners 12s to 18s; for best others 6s to 10s; baconers £3 5s to £3 18s; porkers £2 2s to £3 2s; slips 22s to 335. FRANKTON YARDS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report: At the weekly stock sale in the Frankton Yards we had a medium entry of sheep and cattle. There was a good demand for fat and store sheep, and these made better values than last weeek, but cattle showed no improvement. Quotations: —

Sheep: Fat wethers 19s 9d, fat lambs 17s 9d, medium woolly lambs 8s to 10s. Cattle: Fat cows £4 5s to £5, cows in forward condition £2 5s to £2 Bs, store cows 16s to £1 2s; 16-month heifers £1 17s to £2 3s; yearling heifers £1 6s; 15-month steers £1 4s; weaner steers 14s. Only 4 dairy cows offered. A good heifer realised £l2.

Pigs: There was a very large yarding of pigs, and fat pigs sold up to previous sales at the start, but prices declined a little at the end of the sale. Prime baconers sold up to £4, good baconers from £3 10s to £3 15s, light baconers from £2 15s to £3, good porkers sold up to £2 10s, lighter sold from 35s to 455, small porkers 30s. There was an over supply of weaners and stores, and prices fell considerably. Stores sold up to 30s from 20s, good slips 35s to 225, slips from 12s to 18s, good weaners 10s to 12s, small weaners 6s to Bs. OHINEWAI. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.,, Hamilton, report: At Ohinewai stock sale on Monday, 6th inst., we had an entry of 337 head of cattle, and these all changed hands with the exception of three pens of 3Lj-year-old steers. Quotations: — Cattle: Fat cows £3 12s to £4 10s; 3-year-old steers £3 19s to £4 12s 6d, 2%-year steers £1 14s to £2, 15month steers £1 7s to £1 12s, weaner steers 10s to 16s; 2-year S.H. heifers, r.w.b. £2 15s to £3 15s, 18-month empty heifers £1 15s to £2 4s; cows in fresh condition £1 7s to £1 14s; weaner heifers 19s to £1 Is; bulls 19s to £1 10s. MATAMATA. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report: At Matamata on March 8 a fair entry of lambs came forward. Very few cattle were yarded. Prices obtained were:— Sheep: Good woolly lambs 10s 6d to 11s, medium woolly lambs 7s 9d, shorn cull lambs ss. Cattle: Fat and forward cows £2 2s to £3; 18-month to 2-year heifers r.w.b. £3. OHAUPO SHEEP FAIR. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.,. Hamilton, report: At the Ohaupo sheep fair on Wednesday we quitted several lines of ewes at satisfactory prices, and with a small entry the demand was unsatisfied. Quotations: — 4-year Galatea ewes made 17s 3d, 4, 6 and 8-tooth ewes 14s Id, f.f.m. ewes 10s to Ils Bd, cull ewes 7s 6d, 2-tooth ewes and wethers 13s to 14s.
