AT OTOROHANGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A successful united celebration of Anzac Day was held at Otorob&nga on Sunday afternoon. The Town Hall was fairly well filled, and an impressive service was the result. Well known appropriate hymns were sung and brief addresses given. The chairman of the Town Board, Mr H. Benner, presided, and a number of returned soldiers attended, two of them, Major E. Closey, M.C., and Mr A. B. Mossman, being among the speakers on the platform. The remarks of the returned men were exceptionally interesting, and encouraged the hope that Anzac Day in Otorohanga will offer similar opportunities for men who were actually in the war to keep alive the sacred memories that Anzac Day is intended to celebrate. Major Closey said that New Zealand ought to borrow for Anzac Day from such places as Messines and Le Quesnoy, where the inhabitants annually commemorate joyfully New Zealand's service to them. To all New Zealanders Anzac Day should have an element of joy as well of sadness. As representing the churches, Rev. R. P. Geddes (Anglican), Rev. J. B. Macfarlane (Presbyterian), and Rev. H. White (Methodist) were on the platform, and took part in the service. Mr Calvert rendered the solo, "The Trumpeter." The chairman asked the people to be prepared to join in an effort, shortly to be launched, for raising funds to commemorate the part taken in the j war by the men of the district. The Benediction and National Anthem brought the service to a close.
