BOWLERS' SOCIAL.

UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS. A HALL WANTErJ. There cannot be the slightest hesitation in saying that the Te Kaiti Bowling Club's social and dance, which took place at the Municipal Hell on Thursday night was a most pronoanced success. First and foremost, reference mast bo made to the decorations and the general appearance of the hall itself. As the guests entered the doorway, after passing the barrier in the person of the versatile Sir J. B. Young, they were at once impressed by the decorations and the tasteful lighting effects. The. lights were of various colours, and the shades on the white lights added a subtle attraction, the whole creating an effect at once unusual and pleasing. Mr Muir, borough electrical enginper, deserves every credit for bis care and thoroughnes in attending to this department. Evergreens provided the keynote of the decorations, ell of which were arranged in an attractive manner. Curious and beautiful effects were obtained by the carefal placing of the macrocarpa branches, and this was particularly emphasised in the great capital letters, "T.K.8.C.," on the distant wall. Mr Dix was warmly thanked for his tireless energy in preparing the decorations.

The flags of the Allies were suspended from above in plentifal numbers and added to the general charm of the scene.

It is to be regretted that one anpleisantness hßs to be referred to. The gentlemen had no cloak room of any description, the reading room itself having been taken for the sapper Gentlemen were, therefore, obliged to ckange in and oot of their shoes in the passageways, or wherever they could find an inch or two to spare. The Bft passageway leading to Mr Dix's office was a picture. Coats, hats, boots, etc., were scattered over the floor, and it is to be feared that some were trampled upon. That, of course, was quite accidental, but it all emphasises the need for a hall with suitable accommodation.

Nothing, however, could mar the enjoyment of the evening. About sixty couples graced the floor and danced until the morning.

Mr A. JuiiaD, president of the club, was most diligent in looking after everyone's happiness. Hia efforts were crowned with success. The committee desire to thank Mrs Mclndoe for her kiudness in providing her piano for the free use of the club. This lady's generosity in this matter i« well-known to those who took part in the patriotic entertainments, and the bowlers in particular appreciate the gift.

Mr H. Christian's work aa accompaniest was highy acceptable. A first-class 3upper was provided by the ladies of the Croqaet Club, under the president, Mrs A. Julian.
