—.—- FOR MONTH OF MAY. Waitomo Caves.—Total rainfall 4.60 inches which was 40 per cent, below tbe average; rain fell on eight days, the maximum being on the 18th when 1.80 inches fell. Comparisons:—l9lß, 9.93; 1917, 14.01; 1916, 7.56; 1915, 6.75; 1912, 4.64; 1919 total, 20.70 inches. The temperature in tbe shade was 1 deg. below tbe mean; average, 60; maximum, 59deg.; minimum, 38 deg. Southerly moderate breezes prevailed. Frosts were recorded on six mornings, and there were Beven sunless days. Observations were taken at 8 a.m.
