MANAGER OF RAILWAYS.
MR R. W. McVILLY APPOINTED
OFFICER OF LONG SERVICE.

Mr R. W. McVilly, assistantgeneral manager of railways, has been appointed general manager as from April 30th next, when Mr Hiley will retire. Tbe term for which Mr Hiley was originally appointed expir-d in Augost last, and he expressed a wish then to have his engagement terminated, as be desired to return to England. At the special request of the Government, Mr Hiley agreed to retain his position until the close of the financial year. Mr R. W. McVilly. tbe new general manager of railways, joined tha service of the Railway Department as a boy, and has bad 39 yesrs' service. Mr McVilly accompanied the late Hon J. A. Millar on a visit to Australia when the latter was Minister of Railways. He was appointed assistant-general manager of railways in 1914.
