WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the above council was held Present—Cra Were, chairman. Wall, Toline, Warren, Hargreaves, Lee, and Johnston. The special business wbb the making of a special order and a resolution as follows was carried:—That the council make by way of a special order a resolution adopting the new county by-laws as submitted by the county solicitor, and that such resolution be confirmed at the ordinary meeting of tlie council to be held on Thursday, December 19tb, 1918. The council resolved to Bdopt the scheme submitted by the engineer in regard to the Mapara scheme and authorise the raising of a loan of £I2OO for the purpose of carrying out the proposal. The council agreed to proclaim the Mapara Drainage District a drainage area under he Act. Some 70 applications were received for the, position of county engineer as" advertised for by the council and after a careful consideration of all the applications they were reduced tJ threp, and each of the applicants remaining in this number are t> be invited to personally interview the council at its next ordinary meeting, to be held on November 14th, when a final selection will be made. Cra Were and Wall submitted to the council a report of the meeting held last Frirlay in the Muuicipßl Hall in connection with tha proposed Te Kuiti Hospital, and in view of no definite proposal being in front of the council further action was deferred until the council hears further relating to same.* The question of the county qunrry site in the Waiteti Vail y was vsferred to by .Cr Hargreaves, and Crs Were, Wall and Warren were deputed to wait upon the county solicitor regarding the ■ positioa of the council in connection with the reserve. -

Settlers in the Kqpaki district wrote relating to the spreading and carting of metal, on the Kopaki road, and in view of the letter and complaints of Crs Warren and Hargresves, the contractor waß to be notified that the carting of metal for the road was to be discontinued until the enginaer was satisfied the work should proceed.

The engineer was instructed to prepare plane and specifications for the concreting of about seven chains of the main road in the Pin Pio township. The opinion of councillors was that this work should be carried cut by day labour and a careful tally kept of the cost of completing the job, so as the information may be of use to the council in considering any further proposals foi the concreting of roads in the county.
