CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce met in Mr Giesen's office on Friday evening of last week, when there was a good attendance. A large amonut of business was transacted and amongst others tbe following important items were dealt with: — • Te Kuiti-Hangatiki Road.—The importance of this road was again brought before the meeting, and the following committee was appointed to find out whether tbe completion of the formation of this road could not be carried out: —Messrs Vause, Cheal and Ellison. The fact that Te Kuiti was rarely mentioned in the provincial papers was commented upon and the following committee set up to go into the matter: —Messr3 Boles and Allison. Maoris Attending Public Schools. — This subject was brought up and discussed at length. It was decided that it was not a function of the Chamber of Commerce to discuss this matter as friction might be caused between the two races which certainly was not the Chamber's desire. The secretary received- ths following reply from the Assistant-Secre-tory, General Post Office, Wellington, in reply to a request from the Chamber that a clock be erected at the Te Kuiti post office: —"In reference to your letter of the 7h inst., 1 beg. by direction, to inform you that arrangements are being made to provide a bracket clock with a 24 inch double dial." After general discussion on matters affecting the town the meeting closed.
