RAILWAY TELEPHONE LINES.
ACCIDENT AT AUCKLAND,
THE SYSTEM DISORGANISED.

For a short time yesterday afternoon there was a period of confusion in the city. A number of railway workmen were engaged on the telephone lines near Newmarket, when the railway telephone wire cama in contact with a wire carrying a high voltage. The wires of the railwsy telephone exchange immediately fused putting the railway telephone and tablet signalling systems cut of operation for about fifteen miles south of the city. Tbis disorganised the train ssrviees, but the pilot system was quickly established. A considerabla amount of damage was dona to the electrical sy3tems, and it will be some time before they are in proper order.
