TE RAUAMOA.

Own Correspondent. The Christmas Eve function arranged for the children passed off very pleasantly and successfully. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and the Christmas tree with its wealth of strange friut was a surprise to the little ones, this being the first function of its kind in the district. The gathering was presided over by Mr R. C. Honore, who spoke of the good work of the ladies who had worked so hard to make tbs function a success. The children showed their gratitude by taking part in the entertainment, whic'i consisted of school eongs, recitations, dialogues, and an exhibition of Swedish drill; all items being much apreciated. Prizes were awarded for the best recitations and singing, and resulted as follows: Recitation: Girls, Gertrude Parkinson; boys, Kiri Takiriri. Singing: Girls, Lila Murrell Boys, Arthur Randall. Complimentary speeches were made by Mr J. G. Parkinson and Mr Jas. Noonan, the latter distributing the prizes. Great credit is due to Mesdames Murrell, Daysh, Everess, Honore, and Dassler, for the success of ihe function. A vote of thanks is due to the one who acted as Santa Claus, whose appearance created no small stir amongst the children, and was the occasion of mucfi cheering. The gathering terminated with a dance, music being supplied by Mr Daysh.
